Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines below.
  • The submission file does not include any information about author or authors (like name and surname, affiliation, contact information)
  • The research has been conducted by considering ethical issues and that issues are explicitly stated in the text.

Author Guidelines

Ethical Issues in Study

Authors should consider following ethical issues:

  • All research studies should consider ethical issues and the authors should state that ethical considerations in the article explicitly with a specific header in method section.
  • Each data collection instrument and process should have an ethic committee approval which should be mentioned in the first/last pages and method section of the article with approval unit name, approval no and date. The approval document should also be added to the Appendix section. 
  • A participant consent form should be used for each data collection phase. The form should be presented in Appendix section.
  • A manuscript submitted in 2020 and beyond should apply aforementioned ethical issues, otherwise it will be returned to the author. (Note: the articles that were submitted before 2020 will not be responsible for ethical committee approval)
  • A manuscript must have a similarity rate less than 20%, otherwise it will returned to the author. After any submission, each manuscript is analysed by BUJE team about similarity rate, then authors are informed if the rate is 20% or above.

Creating Manuscript File

The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format in following manuscript submission style.

In addition to the aforementioned format, following style and organization factors should be applied:

  • The length of the manuscript should be a maximum of 8000 words, plus references, tables, figures.
  • The abstract should be 200 words or less describing the main points of the article. Also include up to 10 key words that describe the contents of the article.
  • Manuscripts should be ordered as follows: title page, abstract, text, references, appendices.
  • All figures, tables and lists should be places within the text and have a caption with ordered number (like Figure 1, Figure 2. etc.)
  • Cite figures consecutively in your manuscript.
  • Manuscripts should not include any information about author or authors (like name, surname, affiliation, contact information, etc.). Rather these information should be provided during submission steps for all authors including with their ORCID IDs.
  • References must be cited in text and styled in the reference list according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed. - more information) (see examples below).
    • Journal Article:
         Bekerian, D. A. (1993). In search of the typical eyewitness. American Psychologist, 48, 574-576.
    • Book:
         James, H. (1937). Title of the book. New York, NY: Scribner.
    • Dissertations and theses:
         Duman, A. (2014). Title of the dissertation/thesis . Başkent University, Ankara, Turkey.
    • Chapter in an Edited Book:
         Bjork, R. A. (1989). Retrieval inhibition as an adaptive mechanism in human memory. In H. L. Roediger III & F. I. M. Craik (Eds.), Varieties of memory & consciousness (pp. 309-330). Hillsdale, NJ: Erlbaum.
    • For multiple authors in journals and books:
         If six or fewer, list all authors.
         If more than six, list the first six, followed by et al.

Submitting Manuscripts

Each author must complete and submit the journal’s copyright transfer agreement

All author forms must be completed by the time of revised manuscript submission.

  • Each author will be expected to complete and sign the copyright transfer agreement form electronically (Download the form here)
  • The requirement is for authors of manuscripts to have an ORCID ID in the authors profile. To get ORCID ID please register online at orcid.org.
  • Each author's ORCID ID should be provided during the submission steps, but not in the manuscript.

After Submission

Once you submit your article to BUJE web site, the stage of your submission, all review and revision processes and editorial decisions of acceptance or rejection are executed over the web site. Do not forget to check your email address for notifications. Refer to the Author Submission and Review Guide (PDF in Turkish) document for futhers steps in review process.
